How to Reach Bandhavgarh National Park from Kolkata

By Air

The nearest airport to Bandhavgarh is Jabalpur Airport (around 160 km). You can fly from Kolkata to Jabalpur via direct or connecting flights. From Jabalpur, hire a taxi or cab to reach Bandhavgarh in about 4 – 5 hours.

By Train

Take a train from Kolkata to Umaria (the closest station, around 10 km from the park) or Jabalpur. Both stations have good road connectivity to Bandhavgarh, and taxis or private vehicles are readily available.

By Road

Bandhavgarh is roughly 1,100 km from Kolkata. The drive via Durgapur – Asansol – Dhanbad – Ranchi – Umaria takes about 20–22 hours. Alternatively, buses and private taxis operate from Jabalpur, Raipur, and Nagpur to the park, offering convenient travel options.

Best Time to Book Bandhavgarh Tiger Safari Packages

Booking your Kanha safari from Kolkata early ensures a smooth and memorable experience. Since only a limited number of jeeps enter the park each day, permits often sell out weeks or even months before the travel date.

The park remains open from October to June, with each season offering something special.

  • October to February: The forest is lush and green after the monsoon, perfect for photography and bird watching.
  • March to June: Summer brings excellent tiger sightings as animals gather near water sources.

It’s best to plan your trip four to six months in advance, especially if you want specific safari zones or popular lodges near the gates. Early planning gives you the advantage of better safari timing, preferred accommodations, and a relaxed travel experience.
