Canter Safari in Bandhavgarh
What Is a Canter Safari?
A canter safari is a shared, open vehicle that accommodates around 16–20 visitors at a time. Operated by the forest department, it’s a good option for those who couldn’t secure a jeep permit or are traveling in larger groups. Each ride is guided by a trained naturalist who helps spot animals, explains their behavior, and ensures a safe and informative experience.
The canter follows the same forest trails as jeeps, covering key zones of Bandhavgarh such as Tala, Magadhi, and Khitauli. During the safari, you might see tigers, leopards, spotted deer, sambar, wild boars, and many bird species. The elevated seating in the canter offers great visibility, making it a good choice for wildlife enthusiasts and photographers.
