Jun 3, 2024 | Bandhavgarh Articles

Bandhavgarh National Park is located in the Vindhya Hills in Madhya Pradesh, India and an ideal destination for tiger enthusiasts. Bandhavgarh is famous for its majestic Bengal tigers and offers high possibilities of spotting them among other wildlife.

However, for the first-time visitors planning their journey through the park can be challenging. We have got you covered. This guide will provide you with some tips and advice to make your Bandhavgarh adventure unforgettable.

Planning Your Trip

Season

The park remains closed during the monsoon season (roughly July to September) due to harsh weather conditions. The best time to go is during the dry season which lasts from October till June.  But October through February are cooler months and are best for safaris with less heat during mornings and evenings. March – June may be hot, but these months attract tigers due to water presence.

Accommodation

In Bandhavgarh, there are various types of accommodation suitable for different classes of people ranging from lavish resorts to inexpensive lodges. Think about whether you prefer luxury or getting lost in nature and book well in advance, especially if you decide on peak season trips.

Permits and Transportation

Do your bookings early to secure permits. It’s better to book online especially when visiting popular zones. Additionally, many resorts and lodges can assist you with permit bookings as well as transport arrangements.

Main Bandhavgarh attractions

Royal Bengal Tigers

With one of the largest tiger populations in India it makes sense that Bandhavgarh is considered as one of the best destinations for tiger safaris across India. You may get lucky by spotting these majestic beasts prowling around their natural habitat.

Rich History and Biodiversity

Other than tigers, there is a great history behind Bandhavgarh. This is portrayed by the old fort of Bandhavgarh in Vindhya Mountains. Being a wildlife sanctuary, this park hosts many animals including leopards, sloth bears, chitals, and over 250 species of birds.

Tips

Respectful Observation

Maintain silence during safaris and do not use flashlight while taking photographs. Follow the instructions of your guides and naturalists to make it a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone including animals.

Patience is Key

However, the excitement of seeing tigers is not always guaranteed. In Bandhavgarh, one can also explore diverse habitats in addition to tigers like leopards, sloth bears and many more bird species while being patient to witness the legendary predators.

Early morning

Make sure you wake up before dawn and go for a sunrise safari. Animals are spotted the most during this time. For a first-time tourist, experiencing the early hours in the nature will be truly magical even if you cannot spot fauna.

Beyond the Safari

Explore the Fort

The Bandhavgarh Fort situated high on a hill overlooking the park is an ancient gem now turned into historical sites with its remnants still preserved for lovers of history and culture.

Village Visits

Visit some nearby villages where you get immersed in local cultures. Spend time with locals and learn their ways – it’s humbling yet enriching.

Nature Trails

If you want some exercise, walk along one or more nature trails within the park. Walk through forest canopies and feel one with surroundings as they are breathtaking by default.

Bandhavgarh doesn’t simply mean crossing off an item on your bucket list by spotting these big cats. It’s about experiencing the thrill of the wild, respecting its delicate balance and creating unforgettable memories to be cherished forever. By sticking to these tips and entering with an open mind, you will have a memorable and adventurous trip in Bandhavgarh National Park.
